Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV) is a Central University, situated in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh State, established under the Central Universities Act 2009. Formerly it was known as Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an act of the State Legislative Assembly, on June 16, 1983. GGV is an active member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. It is situated in a socially and economically challenged area of Chhattisgarh State. e university is appropriately named aer the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas, who championed the cause of downtrodden and waged a relentless struggle against all forms of social evils prevailing in the then society. Vishwavidyalaya is now draws about 8000 students from dierent parts of the country. Apart from the regular academics in the campus, the university has successfully managed to extend its services for the welfare of society. The campus is lush green, calm and quiet and free from urban noise and pollution, an ideal temple for education and research.

The Chemical Engineering Department is one of the premier and oldest department of School of Studies of Engineering and Technology (Formerly Institute of Technology) of the University. The department was established in 1997 with a vision to establish itself as one of the best study centre of Chemical Engineering with a focus on cutting edge technology research and to produce career ready chemical engineers. e department oers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs. The department is endowed with well qualied faculty members strongly committed to impart high quality teaching in Chemical Engineering. It has well equipped laboratories in core and specialized areas of Chemical Engineering.

Bilaspur, also known as "The City of Festivals", is a city located in Bilaspur District in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.[2] Bilaspur is the Administrative headquarters of the Bilaspur District and Bilaspur Division. The Chhattisgarh High Court, located at Bodri, District Bilaspur has privileged it with the title Nyayadhani (Law Capital) of the State. This city is the commercial center and business hub of North East Chhattisgarh region. It is also an important city for the Indian Railways, as it is the headquarters for South East Central Railway Zone (SECR) and the Bilaspur Railway Division. Bilaspur is known for its aromatic rice variety named ‘Doobraj’ rice, Handloom woven colourful soft Kosa silk sarees.[3] Basic Tasar Silkworm Seed Organisation (BTSSO) (website) under the Central Silk Board, Government of India collects, executes the production and supply of nucleus and basic Tasar seed from surrounding areas.
